A Texas Criminal Appeals Lawyer with the Experience You Need

Texas criminal appeals lawyer Rick Wetzel is a criminal law specialist with years of experience representing clients in the appeal of criminal convictions and the filing of post-conviction habeas corpus applications in Texas state and federal courts hearing criminal appeals.  His law practice is dedicated to helping people convicted of crimes.

The selection of an attorney to handle the appeal of a criminal conviction is one of the most important decisions a person will ever have to face.  Choosing the right criminal appeals lawyer can mean the difference between a good result and a bad result.  Rick Wetzel has been handling criminal appeals for more than 30 years.  He has handled criminal case appeals concerning every type of conviction from misdemeanors to death penalty criminal appeals.  .

Board Certified In Criminal Law

Rick Wetzel was awarded board certification in criminal law in 1989 by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization–the governing body over board certification and legal specialization in the State of Texas.  Board certification is an official recognition by the State Bar of Texas that a lawyer has the superior knowledge, skills, reputation, and may be referred to as “a specialist.”

Texas criminal appeals lawyer Rick Wetzel understands that good people are sometimes wrongly convicted or unfairly sentenced due to misconduct by the prosecutors, inadequate representation by criminal defense lawyers, errors by criminal trial judges and due to the prejudice, politics and honest mistakes of criminal trial juries.  Those mistakes must be handled in the criminal appeals process, and that is the focus of his law practice.

Admitted In Every Court

No matter which Texas court, state or federal, your case is in, Rick Wetzel is admitted to practice law in that court.  He is admitted to practice in every court in Texas including the 14 Courts of Appeals and the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.

A lawyer must be specifically admitted to practice law in the federal courts.  Rick Wetzel is proud to be a member of the Bar of all of the Federal District Courts in Texas.  He is also admitted to practice in the Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit to handle federal appeals from any United States District Court in Texas.  Rick Wetzel is further honored to be admitted to practice law before the Supreme Court of the United States.

Unparalleled Experience in Criminal Appeals Law

Before starting his private practice in 2003, Rick Wetzel was honored to serve as General Counsel to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals–the highest court for criminal appeals in the State of Texas.  He served in the position in that position for 16 years, where his official duties included supervising a staff of 16 lawyers, reviewing criminal appeals briefs and applications for habeas corpus relief, and drafting proposed legal opinions and orders of the Court.
