Specializing in Appeals and Post Conviction Habeas Applications in both State and Federal Courts.

General Counsel, Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, 1987 to 2003.

Legal responsibilities included analyzing pleadings, preparing memos, and conferring with the Court on proposed dispositions. Prepared opinions and orders in direct appeals, petitions for discretionary review, habeas applications, and original filings as directed. Provided legal advice to Court on employment law and grant authority. Provided legal advice to Clerk’s office. Provided information concerning practice before the Court to District Clerks, prosecutors, and defense counsel.

Administrative responsibilities included hiring, training, and supervising central staff composed of 16 attorneys. Also coordinated law student summer intern program, assisted in biannual appropriation requests, organized in house CLE programs, and assumed other special projects as directed by the Court.

Staff Attorney, Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, 1982 to 1987.

Legal responsibilities included in-depth legal analysis of petitions for discretionary review and post conviction habeas corpus applications. Prepared opinions and orders in selected cases as directed by the Court.

Research Assistant to the Honorable Tom G. Davis, Judge, Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, 1979 to 1982.

Legal responsibilities included extensive research in state and federal criminal law and drafting of proposed appellate opinions in direct appeals to the Court.

Provided legal representation to inmates in all areas of law except disputes involving the Department.
